Can You Dry Clothes in The Oven? [Satisfied Answer is Here]

Drying your clothes in winter when you don’t find a drier is troublesome. It’s even a nightmare when you need wet dresses to dry immediately. So, how can you dry clothes without a drier?

Well, there are many ways to dry clothes without drier. You can rinse the clothes thoroughly and let them dry. Also, ironing the attires is an excellent alternative. But what is the fastest method you can dry wet clothes? Can you dry clothes in the oven?

Okay, unfortunately, I fell in a situation to dry my garments urgently and ended up coming with a dangerous but effective idea of drying clothes in the oven. Here’s my experience of how I could dry clothes in the oven.

How to Dry Clothes in The Oven?

Drying clothes in oven is the quickest way to do it. At the same time, it’s the most dangerous. You can’t put all kinds of dresses in the oven. The clothes with elastic or wool should not go in the oven as they are more prone to create fire. Jeans would be okay but with great care.

I had no other choice but to put my shorts and socks in the microwave. I needed them dry within a couple of minutes. So, carefully put them inside the oven. I ensured the zipper and studs were not close to the surface. Then warmed the garments at 150˚F for about two to three minutes. Then wearing a pair of gloves brought them out from the oven.

Afterward, I shook the clothes well as they steamed lots of moisture away. Then put them inside again for more 2/3 minutes by repeating the whole process five times. Then, I found my garments were almost dry with some moisture in them. But they were okay to use by then.

The main thing isn’t about the temperature but repeatedly taking the clothes out after a while. This will allow the moisture to escape after the steam is produced due to heating.

The conventional air dryers work in the same principle. It heats dresses and via condensing process lets the steam escape with some airflow. You can follow the process in the oven until you keep the temperature in control. Repeating the ‘steam escape’ process is the same as the condensation process of the dryer.

Are Drying Clothes in The Oven Safe?

A microwave will indeed dry your clothes, and your job will be done. But at what cost?

The microwave will not only heat the cloth’s water molecule, which will boil off but also warm the material molecules such as fiber. If you can’t control the temperature efficiently, then there’s a high possibility of ending up catching fire in the oven. The damage will be severe.

Again, you can’t put heavy and large clothes in the oven. As the space is not much inside a microwave, you need to fold the clothes.

For the heavy cloth like a jacket, it’s challenging to warn in the oven even if you ignore the woolen part. The oven will heat the only upper surface. So, the heat won’t be able to dry the entire jacket. If you increase the temperature, the jacket will burn for sure.

So, you should only dry small and simple clothes like cotton socks, shorts, underwear or T-shirts in the oven if you ever have to.

Note: Drying of dresses in the oven will make the dress crispy if not burnt. If you really need to dry the suits in a microwave, hang the clothes near the oven and let them dry by keeping the door open.
